Carmina Burana
For the 1999/2000 season, Marina & Gwendal skate to two pieces from Carl Orff's
"Carmina Burana" - "O Fortuna imperatrix munda" and "Fortune
plango vulnera".
It is a fast, dramatic and very powerful music that has vocals. The suggestion for
the music came from Jayne Torvill who, together with her partner Christopher Dean,
worked as choreographers for Anissina/Peizerat. Together, they created an unique and
impressive program that features innovative and spectacular lifts, fast and difficult
footwork as well as new spins.
The "Carmina Burana" are songs of monks. The theme of the program is the
conflict between the belief of the monks and their fleshly desires. Marina represents the
seduction, the desire. "This program is much less romantic than last year's",
explains Gwendal Peizerat. The team doesn't want to change their style abruptly. Instead,
they want to do programs that go with their characters.
"There was a lot of pressure on us, because everyone expected us to do
something even better than last season", says Gwendal.

The
Man in the Iron Mask
With "The Man in the Iron Mask"
A&P, their coach Muriel Zazoui and choreographer Alla Dukhova (Moscow) put together
yet another powerful and emotional program.
The program contains not only new elements - like another spectacular lift where Marina
Anissina lifts her partner - and intricate changes of position as well as unique,
difficult moves, but also strong footwork and nice spins. A&P are skating very close
together at stunning speed.
"I saw the movie on a plane, and I
liked the music right away", Marina recalls.
When she told her coach about it they found out that Muriel Zazoui as well had seen the
movie and thought the music was nice. The the story is about French king Louis XIV and his
twin brother whom he kept in prison to rule alone. "Marina is everything the mask
represents in the movie", Gwendal Peizerat explains.
At the beginning, she represents the prison, then the conflict between the brothers and
the struggle for freedom. "The whole program is about the struggle for freedom",
Peizerat says. "We wanted to to something entirely new and different", coach
Muriel Zazoui says.

Romeo & Juliet
This program to Prokofiev's ballett music
the so far most succesful one for the French.
It won them their first medals at Europeans (bronze), Olympics (bronze) and
Worlds (silver). "You can feel the love between Romeo and Juliet in each
step", Gwendal says. This emotional program won the couple many peoples hearts
in spite of ongoing discussion about "block judging".
The program belongs to the most beautiful in ice dance.

Info:
Marina and Gwendal had to change their costume
acouple of times,
because it was continously critisized by the judges.
Ahla Leila
Marina and Gwendal chose oriental music.
"It took us quite a while till we found this music", Gwendal recalls.
"We wanted an oriental piece, but it shouldn't be to monotonous, which often is
typical for this style of music.
So everyone looked around - I went to shops, to radio an TV-stations." Eventually he
found "Ahla Laila". "We want to tell a story on the ice".Gwendal says.
This time, it's the story of a young sultan, attracted by a mirage who wants to lure him
in a dreamland.

Samba
In this difficult year of ice dance when all
the couples had trouble to find something new and different without breaking the strict
rules, A&P skated to a Samba.
The difficult programs is full of original ideas (for example some lifts),
interesting steps and footwork. After a soft and flowing slow part follows a dynamic
ending
with turns that make you dizzy while watching.

Flamenco
A&P chose a Flamenco for the freedance of
their first season together.
Even this very first dance already showed the talent and qualities of a very
special couple. Their flamenco is one piece, not a whole mix of different musics, but it
contains variations of rhythm, which Marina and Gwendal use very well - skating payfully
and fast and skating closer together and more romantically as well. This program earned
them an excellent 10th place finish at first worlds in their carrer.
